Abstract

Ship Recycling is the most appropriate term and it is much broader as it implies an element of "Sustainability". Ship recycling is the process of ship dismantling using safe and environmentally sound procedures and using the materials and equipment for reuse. Steel scrap is used for secondary steel making. This paper summaries the role of classification society in ship recycling business. This paper also gives brief on Basel convention and Hong Kong Convention. Getting statement of compliance on Inventory of Hazardous materials (IHM) and International ready for recycling certificate (IRRC) from Statutory body or by Recognized Organization was explained in this paper.
