Botnet Detection: Analysis of Various Techniques

Abstract

Botnet is one of the most significant threat to the digital data and technology. As all the people worldwide are finding niche with technology, criminals are also finding new tools to give new meaning to crime. Due to the growth of technology criminals need not be present on the site of the crime. They can remotely attack legitimate users and get hold of their credentials and perform various malicious activities. Initial bots developed during early days of Internet were benign. Cyber criminals came to know about their potentials and started programming malicious bots. Modern bots (P2P) can evade any security mechanism and are very hard to detect. Machine Learning techniques can be effectively used for their detection.
