Abstract
Present study focuses on the plant modeling and thermo- environmental analysis of a natural gas (NG) fired co-generation plant for Indian perspective. The plant consists of an integrated gas turbine (GT) cycle and a heat generation cycle (in terms of steam). Thermodynamic analysis is carried out by varying the GT cycle’s compressor pressure ratio (rp=4-20) and GT inlet temperature (TIT=900, 1000 & 1100oC). The study shows that the plant can deliver a wide range of power output of about 80 MWe to 160 MWe, depending on the operating condition. Heat output from the plant is also enormous, ranging between 140 MWt and 400 MWt. Combined power and heat output performance from the plant is measured in terms of fuel energy savings ratio (FESR). It is observed that maximum value of FESR is about 50%, at higher TITs. Electrical specific NG consumption also ranges among 0.3-0.5 kg/kWeh, depending on the operating conditions. Exergy analysis shows that, maximum exergy destruction occurs at the combustion chamber. Furthermore, environmental performance of the plant shows the specific CO2 emission from the plant lies between 0.5-1 kg/kWeh.
