Abstract

Detection of explosives has been an active research area in the wake of bomb blasts occurred across the globe due to terrorist activities. Towards this end many detection systems came into existence. The government agencies in various countries are equipped with the devices that can detect explosives. However, often they are bulky in nature and they are publicly visible and expensive. Therefore it is not feasible to use them in the present condition in public places such as railway stations, airports, bus stations and so on. Moreover the traditional systems used to detect explosives need manual attention so as to get them perform their functionality. Therefore it is the need of the hour to have simple and effective network that can monitor such anti-social elements’ actions by detecting explosives reliably and accurately. Towards this end we proposed a comprehensive framework that can have all ingredients to detect explosives and integrated them with a wireless sensor network (WSN). In this paper we proposed a methodology to detect RDX and TNT based explosives. Our algorithm named Explosive Detection Algorithm (EDA) is proved to be effective and the simulation results reveal significance performance improvement over existing methods.
