Abstract

A prisoner, while incarcerated, completely relies on the prison authorities to treat him for any of his medical needs. With his liberties stripped by the government, a prisoner is not free to travel to local emergency rooms, clinics, or even doctors. He is helpless and at the mercy of prison officials to provide for him and ensure adequate medical care is given. But if they fail to do so, a prisoner in the State of Oklahoma cannot sue the State for legal redress but must pray instead that the individual directly causing his injury is solvent.
