Abstract

With increase in global warming, renewable energy based distributed generation is one of the green and eco friendly solution for electricity generation. Distributed generation using renewable energy sources like solar and wind along with diesel generator backup having battery storage will initiate to solve the energy crises for remote locations where energy supply is not possible through the grid. Due to numerous advantages like environmental friendliness, expandability and flexibility have made distributed generation more adoptable option for configuring modern electrical standalone system. A standalone system consists of electric load as well as distributed generation sources at same place which provide excellent and efficient single controlled system. Standalone system can be used as an isolated system and can also be connected with the nearby grid. The concept of standalone system provide the diminution of several reverse conversions in an individual grid and also facilitates connections to variable renewable sources and loads to power systems. By using power electronic converters with the interconnection of DGs to the grid has risen concerned about safe and controlled operation and protection of equipment’s. Standalone can be designed as per the specific requirement such as, improvement in local reliability, minimization of feeder losses, local voltages support, and increased efficiency through use of waste heat, voltage sag correction or uninterruptible power supply for individual customer or group of customers. In the present work size and cost of hybrid PV- wind-diesel standalone with battery storage system is analyzed and optimized using HOMER software.
