Abstract

Education has been defined in different dictionaries as “the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university”.

In this paper, we would focus upon the higher education in the context of quality. The primary education system needs to be strengthened to lay a strong base for higher education. Also there is a need to shift the banking mode of education (as opposed by Paulo Freire in the Pedagogy of the oppressed) to a conscientization model.

The main aim of education, particularly higher education should not rest at scoring high grades and with an ultimate aim of getting a job but putting theory in the practice or to field should be the main component. The quality of higher education can be ensured by making theoretical learning experience more interesting and making an interface with the practice component that is known as Praxsis (an example of social work education). It is not only about practicing certain skills but also building up the practice on strong theoretical understanding which should not be redundant class room lecture but interesting through the interactive sessions unlike the banking mode.

The Paper would develop incorporating the practices in the present, citing examples from different models of education and suggestions for improvement as well. The Paper shall also bring in light the experiences of the authors in the field of education in through field work practice at social work where they have closely understood the system.
