Putting ‘Science’ into Social Science: Explanation of High Maori Incarceration in New Zealand

In this article I apply the reasoning from the spiritual model of humanity to seek a modern scientific explanation of why New Zealand has high Maori incarceration. The popular current explanation is ‘institutional racism’. We begin with a causal examination of the idea of institutional racism and whether or not the idea has a valid scientific foundation. I then follow that with an explanation of high Maori incarceration based on causal understanding of human psychology derived from the spiritual model of humanity.

Based on the preponderance of evidence, the position of greatest verisimilitude:

1. The spiritual model of humanity is the correct science of humanity.

2. There is no causal factor in society called institutional racism, it does not exist.

3. The high incarceration of Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, is due modern Maori attitudes unsuited to enable them comfortably fitting into a modern western constitutional democracy dedicated to individual freedom.

The modern Maori attitudes are so blatantly self-serving as to raise questions on the motivations of the cultural leadership in supporting and enabling such a self-serving position in its members.

Encouragement of such attitudes has enabled major gains in Maori wealth and political influence, but at significant human cost for both Maori and non-Maori in New Zealand society.

Historically there has never been a science of humanity with the intellectual depth and explanatory power of the spiritual model of humanity. The success of applying the spiritual model of humanity providing reasoned and scientific solutions to difficult social issues, underlines the power of the reasoning to draw firm lines between the politics of opinion and science.

The crucial issue for humanity is to select the ideas to adopt and apply in management of itself and its institutions, including society. The next step is proving the spiritual model of humanity beyond reasonable doubt, once achieved offers for the first-time science with the power to direct the decision … which ideas are the best path to social peace, prosperity and spiritual fulfilment.
