Abstract
With the rapid growth of information and communication technologies developments, particularly Internet and Web-based technologies during the past 20 years, various systems integration and collaboration technologies have been developed and deployed to different application domains in construction engineering and management (CEM) using building information modeling (BIM), also known as Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), is a process that uses smart and computable multi-dimensional model of the project to enhance its design, construction, operation and maintenance. These technologies provide a consistent set of solutions to support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of information through the entire product and project lifecycle, and further to integrate people, processes, business systems, and information more effectively. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the research literature on Building Information Modeling using systems integration and collaboration in CEM and discusses challenging research issues and future research opportunities.
