Abstract

The recent urbanization in China has caused a large number of migrant workers to leave their hometowns and separate from their families to earn more money in the city. This paper demonstrates that migrant workers assist the urban growth in China. Skilled cities attract migrant workers and turn to be more productive. However, migrant workers consume few in skilled cities, and most of their earnings are used to support their families in hometowns. The less consumption, the less congestion in skilled cities.
