Abstract
The professional performance of female teachers largely depends on how a woman is treated in her family. Traditional societies see teaching as a good career to have in terms of being home early from work, having a lot of vacations and raising a family. This study was aimed to explore the Household characteristics and household dynamics of Female teachers working in government primary schools in Bangladesh. The study represents the positivist research paradigm. Survey research is the appropriate method to collect data from one group to describe some characteristics of the group. The study includes a sample of 108 female teachers and 72 male teachers from 9 districts representing the various geographical areas. Most of the teachers seem to have small families. A substantial proportion of the teachers seem to indicate those female teachers are most likely to come from educated family background. In the majority of cases, those do have control over their own income who earn by themselves. In a majority of cases from female teachers’ perspective, other members of their family rather than their spouses are found to provide childcare while they are at work. A substantial number of female teachers can not manage time to get prepared for teaching. This evidence shows as one of the main cause of poor quality teaching.
