Abstract

In this study, addition of minor Ti into a mechanically alloyed Cu-Al2O3 alloy powder was found to improve the dispersion of Al2O3 nanoparticles and influence the Cu matrix microstructural features after extrusion. Atom probe tomography (APT) analysis identified that the Ti dopant preferentially segregated at the Al2O3/Cu interfaces and weakly partitioned into Al2O3 nanoparticles. This segregation and partitioning inhibit coarsening of Al2O3 nanoparticles and stimulate the dynamic recrystallization of the Cu matrix during extrusion.
