Abstract

This work considers the issue that (national) internet service providers (ISPs) need to be capable to deliver increasingly more demanding services with higher quality standards. For this purpose, a general framework for enhancing QoE through better configuration of QoS parameters and end-users’ feedback measurement has been proposed. The proposed framework includes two main parts: the QoS part and the QoE part. Furthermore, the QoS part deals with various relevant mechanisms in both data and control planes. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed QoE framework, we have chosen a real-life ISP network for applying the proposal. The obtained results have shown that the satisfaction level of end-users has been significantly increased after the deployment of the proposed QoE framework. This important QoE enhancement has been obtained for all social networking applications considered in this study (Facebook, Viber, and Tango). The obtained advantages have been obvious from both respective of user satisfaction and network measurements.
