Abstract
2014 will be remembered as the year in which two nation-states faced the debate concerning city-regional configuration within their borders in very different ways. We refer to the UK, with regard to the Scottish Independence referendum on 18th September, and to Spain, with regard to the Catalan Consultation on 9th November. While the first case could be depicted as a rationalised dialectic, the second, by contrast, could be defined as an antagonistic dialectic (Calzada, 2014).
