Abstract

Mutual Funds (MF) are one such type of investment. It is a mechanism for pooling the resources by issuing units to the investors and investing funds in securities in accordance with objectives as disclosed in offer document. Mutual Fund issues units to the investors in accordance with the quantum of money invested by them. The paper highlights the performance of mutual funds in India. A mutual fund is not an alternative investment option to stocks and bonds; rather it pools the money of several investors and invests this in stocks, bonds, money market instruments and other types of securities. The owner of a mutual fund unit gets a proportional share of the fund’s gains, losses, income and expenses.
