Abstract

Despite its harsh climatic conditions, the Arctic has long been both home and destination for many people. Due to climate change, interest in the Arctic is growing, as is the number of people travelling to or through the Arctic. This chapter looks at human security and environmental security in the Arctic through the lens of movement, transportation and migration and in doing so offers an attempt to draw lessons from past experiences for the challenges of today and of the future.
