Abstract

The aims of research to determine the application of IMO (International Maritime Organization) rules related on Ballast Water Management, as well as how much were ballast water of vessel discharged in the operation area at Inaport 4 th based on Makasar. Starting at 2017, September 8 th, IMO (International Maritime Organization) requires vessels operating in international territory of sea, to have BWMTS (Ballast Water Management Treatment System). The research method used deterministic to calculate ballast water of vessel discharge and based on IMO MEPC 56/23 ANNEX 2. The data of International ship visit at Inaport 4 th is used as the basis for analyzing. By 2016 year and assuming 60% of international ships visiting and each vessel to ballast water of ship discharge 25 tonnes of ballast water, as the ballast water of vessel discharge recovered is 111,587.68 tons or equivalent to 114,377.37 kL. Some of the ballast water of vessel discharge must be handled properly, so that the invasive species are not included in the waste of ballast water. The IMO (International Maritime Organization) rules relating to the ballast water of vessel discharge has been urgently installed on board, limited space in machinery rooms and relatively expensive prices of device Ballast Water Management Treatment System. The logical solution is the handling of the ballast water of ship discharge with external processing outside the vessel.
