Abstract

We investigate the silicon based ternary photonic crystal waveguide for possible mirror application. Photonic crystal waveguide is perceived by one dimensional photonic crystal structure, which consists of ternary periodic structure, where ternary periodic layer is implemented by the combination of silicon-air-silicon dioxide layers. Here, plane wave expansion method is applied to such periodic structure to acquire the reflectance characteristics. Simulation result demonstrates that number of layers in the periodic structure plays an important role for the same. Further the structure is optimized for 100% reflectivity. It is also found that wavelength band shift gradually increases from 8 to 32 ternary layers.
