Abstract
The article deals with the problem of friendship and carnal love in Augustine’s theology. The Augustinian doctrine of caritative love becomes clearer when compared with evil lust, which can lead a person to the mortal sins of murder, and even to suicide. We revealed that views of blessed Augustine and blessed Jerome are strikingly different in their views on marriage and virginity. We made the conclusion that Augustine emphasizes the impossibility of allowing the apostles to lie about marriage and carnal love. Recognizing the falsity of the apostle Paul’s teachings on marriage is unacceptable to Christian consciousness and a godly attitude to the divine inspiration of Scripture.
