Abstract
With the pandemic causing crushing health and financial blows, and the national bans on in-person gatherings, law schools migrated overnight to online teaching. They now must and prepare if they are not already, for online bar support. Online bar support can includes curricular courses and extracurricular bar success workshops – as well as online bar exam coaching, mentoring, and counseling. This paper focuses on just a few of the limitless tools that may be employed in synchronous and asynchronous online law school bar preparation.
These are trying times; lives are at stake. This is not the way most educators would choose to be thrown into new frontiers. But with little if any time to plan, law faculty nationwide have sprung into action and are coping with this crisis by making lemonade from lemons. What just a month ago was a fascinating pedagogical choice (to flip or not to flip), has overnight become a necessity. Bar exam preparation will be no exception.
Commercial bar review is largely already online. Law schools will be making critical choices about which parts of their supplemental bar courses, workshops, extra-curricular, and co-curricular bar support programs to adapt into online spaces. This paper offers some perspectives to help with those choices.
