Abstract

Since 2014, the Turkish Government has been notorious for its disregard to the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms. As Human Rights Watch put it, Turkey has experienced a “dramatic erosion of its rule of law and democracy framework” with political influence seeing “courts systematically accepting bogus indictments”.

In this report, we describe what the right to property entails including limitations to this right, document the Turkish Government’s intervention into the right to property, and then analyze its legality under international and national law. We conclude with recommendations to the victims of intervention, to the Turkish Government, and to international organizations.
