Abstract

The social-distancing measures implemented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have changed the socio-economic activities in urban areas. This study analyzes these behavioral changes in four Japanese metropolitan areas based on mobility data provided by Google and Apple. The results show that regular patterns of behavior have been significantly disrupted by COVID-19, and that the behavioral inhibition manifests differently depending upon urban structure and climatic factors.
