Trend of Trading at National Stock Exchange in Capital Market Segment

Abstract

Stock Exchange is a hub of primary and secondary market playing a crucial role in the economy. Stock exchange provides a place to the buyers and sellers of the shares and securities. For this purpose National Stock Exchange was established by the leading institutions in mid 1990s with the main objective to furnish a modern and online based trading system with national reach. National Stock Exchange has set up an aid that works as a model for securities industry in terms of technique and strategy. Presently, the Capital Market segment of National Stock Exchange provides a smooth and transparent platform for trading of equity, preference shares, debentures, exchange traded funds as well as retail government securities, which motivates researcher for exploring research in analyzing the growth pattern of their trading. The present study explored and analyzed the trend of trading at National Stock Exchange in capital market segment. The study is secondary based and analytical in nature. Data has been extracted from official website of NSE for the duration of 10 years i.e. from 2009-2019. The study has found that NSE has a growing trend but in the year 2016-2017 there was a drastic downfall in the trading of NSE. During the year 2016, the CEO of NSE i.e. Ms. Chitra Ramakrishna also resigns from her position which lead to tremendous downfall in market. And according to the news in May 2019, NSE was in scam in which NSE was using the Tick-by-tick server to help its members by providing data to them. Hence, the current study has focused on the analysis of trading share of the National Stock Exchange.
