Abstract

English abstract: This article has double aim: to analyze the main points of discussion during the formulation of the French mobilization plan which was effective on the eve of the First World War (so called plan XVII itself), and the same points during its posterior consideration by contemporaries and researchers. The key variables that influenced the final version of plan XVII are revealed, as well as its “lessons” that had impact upon French military doctrine in the interwar period. The discussions around it in the French, British and American historiographies are also examined.
