Abstract

This chapter in the forthcoming book "Intellectual Property Licensing and Transactions: Theory and Practice" relates to the transfer of intellectual property from academic and research institutions to the private sector and among institutions. It covers topics including the U.S. Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, the U.S. Supreme Court case Stanford v. Roche (covering ownership of inventions), disputes over federal march-in rights (In re Fabryzme), university patent licensing practices, licensing by federal laboratories, the Nine Points for University Technology Licensing, sponsored research, materials transfer and university policies governing copyright.
