Abstract

When Edward Snowden released secret documents demonstrating illegal NSA surveillance, a debate raged about the tradeoff between privacy and national security as well as how to hold spy agencies accountable. This short piece, written for the Washington Post, discusses five myths about privacy in light of this debate.
