The Semantics of Governance (the Common Thread Running Through Corporate and Public Governance)
18 Pages Posted: 7 Apr 2005
Abstract
This paper provides a distinctive semantics for the notion of governance that illustrates connections and sets up a unifying view from which to understand its natural branches: the corporate and the public governance. In this regard, governance is presented from the point of view of a growing field of learning and practice. Moreover, three levels of analysis are carried out to drive the subject home. Firstly, by focusing on the extent of corporate governance within an institutional framework. Secondly, by framing the notion of public governance. Lastly, the development goes further to show the linkage among constituents, charters and representation, so as to later expand on issues raised by accountability, voting and codes of good practices.
