Abstract

This note discusses the creation and management of lecture and course videos for internet distribution. These videos are not specifically designed as an alternative delivery vehicle to allow students who do not attend the lectures to learn course content. Rather, the videos are a study aid used in conjunction with the regular course materials. Based on an initial trial, students use them very extensively and often, they like them, and their learning benefits from them. This note is a description of the experience of recording a core MBA finance class and distributing the resulting videos over the internet. The recordings include only instructor voice and the visual aids used in class, which makes internet distribution feasible. In addition, the note discusses how to easily create short, in-office special purpose videos on difficult topics. The note describes the software used (inexpensive and very easy to use), as well as experiences with using the software in a course setting. The entire process can be conducted without involvement of IT professionals by a moderately tech-savvy instructor.

Some links to example videos produced with the technology are included in the paper.
