Abstract

Till the formation of world trade organization (WTO), the global trade was guided by the General Agreement in Tariff and Trade (GATT) - an agreement which primarily covered trade in goods. The scope of WTO is much larger than GATT. In the new system, many agreements related directly or indirectly to global trade were enacted. One such agreement, the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) deals in different aspects of service trade. While presenting views of different authors on this topic, sincere efforts have been made to avoid any critical assessment so that the readers get an unbiased view on these controversial issues.
