State Sales Taxes in Fiscal 2004: Capturing Proceeds from a Stronger Economy

Abstract

The author examines sales tax data for fiscal 2004. He finds that the growth in sales tax collections was robust and the sales tax continued to be the largest single producer of state tax revenue. The growth generally was the result of increased economic activity.
