Abstract

Nepal, a country in Southern Asia, is one of the countries in the world that needs to do a lot for its overall development. It has more than 28 million people out of which 90 percent are living in rural areas. Mountain terrain is the landmark with the beautiful natural environment, surrounding Nepal. Its immediacy to China in the north and India in the south is its key access to the business world. The three geographical zones of Himalayas in the north, mid Himalayas spreading in the central region and the Terai region make Nepal a distinct identity for tourism.

Opportunity recognition is plenty. Hence it must be capitalised via innovation. The impediment may be the size of unskilled labour that is ready to be enterprising. The market awaits such enterprising individuals to capitalise gains both for the short and long term. Government intervention if possible should be limited to identification and creation of such target groups, who could be sensitised with the help of Indian counterparts in creation of success channels. Thus majority of the investment will go in training and intervention of such clusters.

Tourism, carpet, textile are few promising industries from this Himalayan kingdom. We should not ignore that India has been importing live animals, Cotton Fabrics, Readymade garments, etc. Hence a strategic plan must be worked out for an active participation by the skilled and the unskilled labour of Nepal who in turn will be contributing to the production while sharing the benefits.
