Abstract
American work ethic is unique because most cultures have denigrated handymen for centuries, entrenching a deep-seated prejudice against manual labor. For example, Hinduism has created a complex mythological framework to delegate physical work to lower castes. In fact, American respect for manual labor is an Islamic value.
