An Analysis of the Close Links Between Corruption and Organized Crime (Corrupción y Delincuencia Organizada: Un Estrecho Vínculo)

Abstract
This article provides a survey of the causal factors linking the growth of public sector corruption and organized crime. The framework of analysis presented has been tested within technical assistances by the authors in a sample of 45 countries worldwide. The need to enhance inter-institutional coordination among judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies is considered key when framed within the United Nations Convention Against Organized Crime (i.e. Palermo Convention). The piece also includes additional policy prescriptions, founded on best international practices, aimed at policy makers and judicial authorities.
