I am currently working on Digital Economics to better understand the platform economy, multisided platforms and the platform-based ecosystems. If the industrial revolution was organized around the factory, todays changes are organized around these digital platforms, loosely defined.” In the platform economy costs are reduced not by management but via digital platforms—technology. A question that has received less attention is how the ITR has affected the organization of the firm. In other words, “How do lower search costs affect firm organization? The reduction in search costs and verification costs has also led to a new form of organization—the platform-based ecosystem.
