Tenure Track Assistant Professorships in Econometrics and Macroeconomics (2.0 fte)

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) (https://goo.gl/QEUQQ3) the UvA provides academic courses for more than 5,000 students in Economics, Business, Actuarial Science, Econometrics, and a variety of post-doctoral courses. The Faculty also conducts research programs in many specialist areas and employs about 400 people. The FEB has an internationally acclaimed profile and is located in the heart of Amsterdam. FEB consists of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS) and the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).(http://ase.uva.nl) ASE is among the top economics research institutes in Europe. It actively participates in the teaching and research activities of the Tinbergen Institute, (http://www.tinbergen.nl) one of the top graduate schools in Europe.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS: One vacancy is within the Econometrics group at ASE. This group is well regarded for its research on a variety of econometric topics, including weak instruments, persistence in time series, financial econometrics and panel data. It is very involved in the Tinbergen Institute. The group is responsible for providing the econometric courses at the FEB for the undergraduate and master programs in economics, business and econometrics.

The other position is in Macro and International Economics (MInt). MInt is a section within ASE and covers its teaching and research in macroeconomics, broadly defined, so including fiscal policy, international trade and finance, macro-finance, monetary economics, pension economics, and so on. The MInt research group occupies a prominent position in Europe. The group is very involved in the Tinbergen Institute. For details on MInt's research, please visit the MInt website.

Candidates are expected to equally contribute to research and teaching. Teaching will be at both the undergraduate (BSc) and the graduate (MSc) level and will range from first-year tutorials to supervising MSc theses and possibly teaching PhD courses. A substantial part of the school's teaching is conducted in English, also at the undergraduate level; non-Dutch speakers are free to teach in English. Research is expected to be aimed at international top journals, in line with the research fellow criteria of the Tinbergen Institute (https://goo.gl/k8S2ni)(meeting these criteria is a condition for tenure).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: For the vacancy in Econometrics, all candidates with a strong background in econometrics or statistics will be taken into consideration. The group wishes to expand its research and teaching in the areas of machine learning, data science and financial econometrics, so candidates with an expertise in these areas are specifically encouraged to apply.

For the MInt position, candidates with a strong background in macroeconomics, broadly defined, will be considered.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have or be close to completing a PhD. For the Econometrics vacancy this should be a PhD in Economics, Econometrics or Statistics; for the Macro vacancy it is a PhD in Economics or in Finance with a focus on macroeconomics. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for and/or record of excellence in research and teaching.

APPOINTMENT: For each position, the successful candidate will be offered a six year tenure track position as Assistant Professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure, a permanent contract as Associate Professor will be offered.

The gross monthly salary during the first three years will be, depending on experience, between Euro 3,475 and Euro 4,757 (salary scale 11) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments). After a positive evaluation the maximum becomes Euro 5,405 (salary scale 12). This is based on 38 hours per week and in accordance with the salary scales and the collective labor agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. A substantial reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The UvA offers a very attractive pension scheme.

The intended start date is September 1st, 2018.
