Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the visual communication means of self presentation on the Hungarian social networking site IWIW. On the one hand, it aims at mapping young IWIW users’ habits of a small town from Romania, Miercurea Ciuc; on the other hand it examines to what extent the visual self presentation of young people is marked by self-idealization practices and by the tendency of revealing one’s privacy, as described by social networking literature. Our hypothesis is that young people under study have a considerable tendency to self-idealisation and exhibitionism.
