MCDM in Travel and Tourism Research since 1997: A Bibliometric Approach

Abstract

Decision-making in the travel and tourism industry is often a complex process and requires the simultaneous consideration of qualitative and quantitative factors. Accordingly, decision makers need a decision support system that helps them attain the best possible solution while minimizing the risk of failure. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques provide a systematic approach to solving travel and tourism problems. However, less is known about the implication of MCDM techniques in travel and tourism research. This study used bibliometric analysis to identify the most prolific and influential countries, journals, publications, and trends applying MCDM techniques in travel and tourism research. This study shed light on the implications of MCDM techniques in travel and tourism research and provides guidelines for future research directions.
